  • A Brief Guide to the Basic Rules of Texas Holdem

In Starting to play the game one needs to know the basic rules so as to get an understanding of how to play Texas Hold’em. Here is a brief guide to the basic rules of how to play in order to try to beat your opponents in this style of poker playing. These are the rules played at tournaments and are by general consensus, the main rules for playing Texas Hold’em. So it is in your best interest to know the basic rules if you are new to the game.

    Main Objective of the game.

The main objective of playing Texas Hold’em is to beat your opponent by having the highest five card poker hands with community and whole cards. If you have the winning combination you win the pot.

    The Betting Rounds.

This is how the betting rounds should look like in a standard game of Texas Hold’em.

    - The dealer will first deal face down the all the player’s first two cards. These are known as the pocket cards. This is when the first betting round takes place.

    - Then the dealer will burn a card and turn over the three community cards. This will then trigger off betting round 2.

    - Now the dealer will continue to burn another card and in turn will carry on to turn over one community card This is otherwise known as THE TURN ON 4TH STREET. After this you will get round betting round three on the way.

    - The dealer will now burn one more card and turn over the last community card for the current game which is known as the River, 5TH TREET. After this we have the last betting round.

    - The last part of the game is known as the showdown where each player will show their cards and the bettor will show his or her cards first. These are the types of card coordination’s accepted for the showdown by each player:

    a. Two must be pocket cards and three can be broad cards.
    b. One must be a pocket card with another four broad cards.
    c. No pocket cards and all of the cards to be broad cards.

    The Dealer Button.

In the Texas Hold’em game there is a disk, which is used, and it is called the deer’s button. The dealer button moves in a clockwise direction after each consecutive hand so the next player becomes the next dealer for the next poker round. The first player who is sitting on the left hand side of the button is one that gets dealt the first card in the new game. This ensures continuity and organization in the game with a relative amount of fairness so that all players get treated equally whatever their situation may be.

    The Betting Rules.

Before the betting commences the two first players that are situated left of the dealer’s button have to place some live bets known as the large and small blinds. They are called this because the bets are being made without any cards being dealt or even seen yet. The minimum bet is usually raised on the large blind of the game.

These are the main betting rules to commence a game of Texas Hold’em and give you an idea of how it is started and played. There are more intricate rules and regulations, which can be looked into in more detail.
