Important Tips for Poker Amateurs
Thinking of trying your hands at poker? Better do your research or you might just burn your finger(and your money too). Yes, its one of the most exciting and the most popular card games and also a game which has destroyed many players’ entire hard earned fortune. The game has its own thrills and spills and any of the professional poker player will vouch for that.
Poker is not as simple as it looks and it does require a lot of skills and a thorough understanding of the game to win it. Of course the element of luck cannot be ruled out. Even an expert can be made to eat the dust in case any one of the element is missing.
So even before you jump out to bet your life’s saving on a game of poker (we do know that your want to win), you might want to take a close look at what is required to game the game of poker.
A good idea would be to start practicing and then try to understand the the game instead of just reading up. Of course reading up does help but nothing can beat the practical experience that you gain from play it. You can always start playing with your friends and family members for fun and hopefully you could turn into a professional poker player in case you decide to do so.
However, if you are the kind of person who stays away from gambling and religiously believe that its a sin, this one is not for you as you can term this as gambling rather than betting. The skills that one requires is the understanding of the game rather than anything else and thats one of the most important one as to why Poker is the most favorite in many of the casinos all over.
When we say understanding, we do mean the rules and the different terminologies used at the table. It’s very important that you understand what each of these terms mean as this will give you an advantage over others and will help you plan your move. In poker any advantage is a big advantage and you can cash in on that if you have the skills.
Apart from the casinos, you can practice playing poker online. In many of the countries, including the US, online poker is banned so you might want to play for fun without risking real money. This will help you get a feel of the game. If its your first try at poker, don’t expect to win huge bounty or even win a game. You could if lady luck smiles at you but then we are not talking about odds. However, don’t let that stop you from beginning.
One of the wonderful aspects of the Texas Hold’em poker game is that it s a great game for greenhorns and Pros alike as it is easy to pick up. Unlike its other poker counterparts like the 7 card or the Omaha High, Texas Hold’em is one of those games that can be picked up in a few minutes as there are less probabilities attached to the game.
Once you have picked up the basic principles it is easy to move around in circles where you can win your pot loads without too much effort but caution is always advised and along with a steady hand of course. To be able to become proficient in the game you must make sure you get plenty of practice because although it can be picked up in a few minutes only after several hours of playing will you really begin to get to understand the mindset of the game and what it really entails.
The best advice I could give a Newbie at Texas Hold’em is to first play poker online at the free tables in order to get plenty of first hand experience at minimum risk to yourself as it is so easy to get cought up in the excitement of the game and realize that it won’t be fun and games if you are losing and gambling all your money away like there was no tomorrow.
This is NOT a trait you want to pick up or follow. If you are playing with calculated risk then it is more safer and you will then be able to set yourself limits while enjoying your flutter. You will be asking what has all this to do with playing Texas Hold’em?
If you do not follow basic guidelines of discipline and self-restraint you will not be able to learn to be a cool player. It is the cool and unperturbed player that more likely will be walking away with the pot.
Money management and discipline is the key to successful gambling. Losers are the ones that play even their dirt in order just to stay in the game. You MUST set yourself a limit on how much you wish to play and what you can AFFORD to lose. This is one of the most important points to remember.
If you do not manage your money from the start it can spell disaster for you now and in the future and this is not what you want. If you are putting a small amount aside and placing it in pot called ‘entertainment’ then that is the best way in which to look at this game.
I have an Auntie in her Eighties who still goes to the Casino three times a week and she has been playing for years and she only receives a disability pension.
She pays all her bills and has some to spare to play at the Casino and we never know if she loses or wins. The one thing that we do know is that she is always happy and is never without cash so her secret is that she views it as light entertaining and even enjoys her meal at the Casino.
Practice makes perfect and I cannot stress this enough as the rush to get high and play for real cash will set in quite early. I will tell you that running amok like a wild horse on the Casino floor won’t do yourself or any one else any justice for that matter so if you can hold on to the reigns of your ego then that is another good start to your Newbie training.
Once you have had plenty of practice then you can set aside a small portion of your hard earned money as an entertainment expense. After following this sober advice you will be ready to commence playing Texas Hold’em in only ne or offline poker rooms.
