Not only the casinos but also the publishing houses were making money on the popularity of the game. Soon there were thousands of books available to teach poker.

    Another major boost to the popularity of this game was in 1987 when the community card poker games was introduced in California. The impact can be seen till today as California has the largest poker casinos in the world. The games proved to be far more exciting to players than the draw poker variants which were played till then.

    Soon in the 1990’s casino gambling spread across the United States and it became part of the American lifestyle. Movies were made revolving around poker which were huge hits, TV shows were dedicated to Poker

    With the introduction of online poker, the popularity just doubled up as there was no need to go to a casino and you could just sit at home and could play poker online. This had its own advantage and disadvantages. For a spectator sport this turned into a individual game as the viewers could now follow the action and drama of the game.

    To tackle this issue, the broadcasts of poker tournaments such as the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour were brought in bring back the viewers and this drastically increased the audiences for cable and satellite TV distributors.

    Due to the ever increasing coverage of poker events, poker pros became celebrities and had fans all over the world. With the growing popularity of online tournament, major poker tournament fields have grown dramatically. With money, fame, viewers and a lot of fan following, poker is here to stay for a long time.
