Texas holdem for Amateurs
The favorite poker version of the North Americans and the Europeans is the Texas hold ‘em, often referred to as holdem. This has become a huge hit among the online players too. So what exactly is Hold ‘em? No need to wonder, we are right here to let you know more on Texas Holdem.
Holdem is a community card game where every player can use any combination of the five community cards and their own to make a series. Each player begins with just two cards and the rest of the cars are shared. The game can get addictive for people who love to analyze and who can strategically analyze and make their move. If you mathematical skills are good then you do have an advantage here. The game can be learned in a few minutes and you can expect to play fairly well with some practice. However by anyone, and you can be playing fairly well with a few hours practice. However, you must practice it for a long time in you intend to play it on a professional level.
Here’s a run up to Holdem for your quick reference
No consistent betting structure – Holdem betting structure will vary and at times antes are used. However, most games begin with two players to the left of the dealer placing a predetermined bet amount so as to get things going. This action is called posting the blinds.
You don’t play with just two cards – Yes, the standard deck of 52 cards is used and you might want to keep that in mind while you plan your strategy.
Pocket cards are dealt face down. Doesn’t mean you can’t see the cards.
Betting starts with the person to the left who posted the blinds and its call the pre-flop.
The amount of bet does not have a restriction however, it does depend on what type of a game you are playing.
Once the pre-flop is done with, the dealer discards the top card of the deck to avoid any cheating. This action is called the burn card.
Three cards are flipped next on to the table and this is called the flop. Players can use these in combination with their two card to form a hand.
The next round of betting starts with the player to the left of the dealer and after the betting is done, another card is burnt and flips one card to the table. Turn card is what this action is called. This is used to form the five card hand.
Again, another round of betting is started and in most of the games the bet size doubles up in this round.
The final card is place after another card is burnt. River is what they call this. Now the players use any of the cards on the table to form a hand. After this there is the final round of betting and the players start revealing their hands. This is the showdown and the player with the best hand wins the bet. So now with a basic understanding, you are all set to start practicing. Try understanding the game before you start betting huge amount. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!
