but Phil Ivey is going to the November Nine.

Think poker will get some main stream attention?   The guy everybody has called the Tiger Woods of the game is one of nine players with a chance to win the Main Event this year.

Ivey outlasted over 6,000 runners and at one point was one of the big stacks.  He had a bad day to close out the July portion of the World Series of Poker but he survived something over 6,000 players can’t say.

He’s also going to the final table with a the spotlight trained solely on him.  The other November Eight can forget about getting a shred of the attention chipleader Dennis Phillips got last year.  Oh yeah, Dennis went deep again this year.

The 2009 November Nine chip-leader is Darvin Moon.  Because every article will be about Ivey and invariably the author will have to mention who the chipleader is (like I just did), Moon will get after thought attention.

The rest of those guys can forget about it.  It’s going to be Ivey nonstop until November. That’s a shame though, as there are some other interesting stories.  There is Jeff Schulman heir to the Cardplayer magazine fortune who said should he win the Main Event he’d toss his bracelet.

Apparently, Schulman is none to pleased that the WSOP froze out Cardplayer and grants exclusive print media contracts.  What he fails to mention is he never complained when it was Cardplayer that held that exclusive contract.  Schulman would like to bring attention to Harrahs’ angle shooting.  Okay, now you got someone to root against.

Did we mention Darvin Moon is the chipleader?  The guy is wearing a New Orleans Saints hat because he roots for the underdog.  Texas Hold’Em Rules ! He’s a logger from Western Maryland and his a mammoth chipleader at the WSOP.  Dennis Phillips part deux.  Only difference is Phillips didn’t have Phil Ivey in the passing lane.

Buckle in and enjoy the ride poker fans.
