  • Phil Ivey Wins Sixth WSOP Bracelet

The Man who snuck into Atlantic City Casinos with a fake ID when he was under 21 and picked up the nickname No Home Jerome just won his 6th WSOP Bracelet.  He took down the $2,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event this year.  He collected 96k for his trouble.  Even better for Phil he wagered close to 3 million in prop bets that he’d win a bracelet this year.  Knowing for his penchant for only playing hard when something is on the line, don’t be surprised to see Ivey enter fewer events the rest of the series.  Or more likley get on the hook for another bracelet prop bet for this year.

Ivey won his first bracelt in 2000 winning a Pot Limit Omaha Event for 195k.  He folled that up by winning three bracelets (so prop bettors beware) in 200 for 7 card Stud Hi/Lo, 2k S.H.O.E event and 7 Card Stud event.  In 2005 he won another Pot Limit Omaha event, his biggest WSOP cash for 635k.  Ivey’s two bracelets in PLO reveals why you don’t want to play omaha online poker with the guy.   Interestingly enough, Ivey has yet to win a No Limit Hold’Em event but just looking at the diversity of his wins you can tell he is one of the most talented and complete poker players alive.

Ivey has made a record eight World Poker Tour final tables.  He’s only cashed nine times so that tells you how effective he is playing once they’ve passed the money bubble and how adept he is at amassing chips.  Ivey’s prop bets are always a running WSOP story.  This year’s 3 million dollar win assuages a big loss for the same bet last year.

To win his sixth bracelet, Ivey had to battle for 3 and half hours of heads up play with John Monette.  They traded leads for a little bit but eventually Ivey took the lead and finished off Monette.  Here’s a link to an interview of Ivey just before he got to the final table.  And he in fact, he does tip off that he’ll be looking for another bracelet prop bet.
