First there was the “Durrrrr” which still hasn’t really been completed. Though kudos to Patrick Antonius for playing at first. Now, Dwan, with the aid of a TV crew and a studio is issuing another challenge to the poker world.
The rules will be slightly different than his online poker matchup with Antonious. He’ll still be playing heads up, but this time it’ll be face to face. Hopefully, it’ll make for better TV than Face the Ace.
Dwan travels to London and appropriately enough tackles a European face for his first challenge. Sammy George, known on European poker shows, will get first stab at Dwan. The rules they’ll play by is a one time buy-in of 500k. The blinds will hold steady at $500/$1000.
George and Durrrr will play four sets. Each set will consist of 500 hands. Unlike tennis the winner of each set is irrelevant. All that matters is one player wins all the money. Once a buy-in is gone the match is over. If the match isn’t settled after four sets (2,000 hands) the winner will be the player with the most chips.
Just like the old challenge, Durrrr is offering his opponent a choice of Pot Limit Omaha or No Limit Hold ‘Em. This time he won’t be able to hide behind a computer screen like he does when he wants to play online poker. Wonder if George will pick up any tells.
George, is known as Sammy “any two” George, and that seems appropriate as Dwan’s aggressive style oftentimes has him playing two cards nobody else will. That sounds like an interesting match. George, has been featured on The Big Game and Poker Million. He knows how to hype the match too. He heaped praise on the likes of Phil Ivey but when it comes to the online poker pro phenom he merely said “Guys like Durrrr … are normal … nothing special.”
Already, this sounds 100 times better than Face the Ace and the Million Dollar Poker Challenge might even do better in that time slot, even if it’s not televised stateside and just downloaded on the Internet. Wonder if George will consent to sitting down to play poker online with Dwan in the future, win or lose, because he’s certainly said some fighting words.
