Top 5 Female Pioneers of Poker
We are focusing on women in poker this week because of the Ladies night in the Rio at the WSOP and the Hall of Fame inductions.
As mentioned yesterday, there are only seven women in the Women in Poker Hall of fame. June Field, Jan Fisher, Cindy Violette (this years class) and last years class; Barabara Enright, Susie Isaacs, Linda Johnson, and Marsha Waggoner. We covered Violette in our top 5 female poker players and could easily put her here too. Also, all five of these players have a great claim to being in yesterday’s list. Though, we suggest they are on the tail end of their poker careers it wouldn’t be a surprise if any of these ladies added to their poker success with more titles.
5. Mimi Tran - Barry Greenstein’s former girlfriend and still a player he mentors, Tran has played poker since 1989. She focused mostly on side games until Greenstein prodded her into trying tournaments. Her tournament winnings are in excess of 1.4 million. She has 17 cashes at the WSOP and a semi final appearance in the National Heads Up Poker Championship (she lost to Chris Ferguson).
4. Marsha Waggoner – An Aussie, Waggoner has finished in the money in 19 WSOP events. She doesn’t have a bracelet but she does have one second place finish. She also has 7 in the money finishes on the World Poker Tour. Former wife to Kenna James, Waggoner has over $800,000 in tournament winnings. She started her career in gambling as a casino dealer in Sydney in 1976.
3. Susie Isaacs is a two time bracelet winner. Like Dollison she went back to back in 1996-1997 in the Women’s Seven Card Stud event. She has authored two books and has tournament winnings in excess of 360,00. She was also one spot away from a Main Event final table. She has 12 in the money finishes. She has played poker in Las Vegas since 1986 and is originally from Nashville, Tennessee.
2. Nani Dollison- real name Kun Nan Dollison is a South Korean immigrant who landed in Hernando Mississippi. Dollison preceded the “Moneymaker Effect” and went to back to back in 2000 – 2001 winning the Women’s Championship at the WSOP. She has also won a bracelet for 2k Limit Hold ‘Em (also in 2001). Two bracelets in one year is a feat many women can’t brag about, nor going back to back. She only has 770,000 in tournament winnings but that two year run at the WSOP, and her THREE bracelets is so epic she has to be include on the list.
1. Barabara Enright - Enright, like Dollison, has three World Series of Poker bracelets. She also is the only woman to have made in to the final table of the WSOP Main Event (1995). In 1996 she became the first female to win an open event when she won the Pot Limit Hold’em tournament. Her tournament winnings exceed 1.275 million. She has 11 in the money finishes and is one of the most accomplished female players of all time.
