Hot off the press releases the World Series of Poker Europe announces their dates.  Once again, the WSOPE 2009 will be returning to the Casino At The Empire in London.  Once again, ESPN will be televising the Main Event.  This year the dates to circle on your calender are September 17th to October 1st.

There will be four bracelet events including a brand spanking new £2,500 Pot Limit Hold’em/Pot Limit Omaha mixed event.  Certainly there will be a way to play online texas holdem and win a seat to the event.

In the release we learn that winning a bracelet is a big deal courtesy of World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.  He said, “Winning a gold bracelet is recognized globally as the top prize in the sport and we look forward to awarding four more bracelets in 2009 at the Casino at the Empire in London.”

The Empire, like a 7-11 is now open 24 hours a day.  Why a 7-11 is still called a 7-11, when maybe 24-7 might be a good name change is anybody’s guess but I’m off topic.  The Empire is running satellites in anticipation of the Main Event starting as early as NOW.  To play texas hold’em live and win a seat follow this link  http://www.thecasinolsq.com/pages/casino-events.php for more details.

Players not tired of the nearly two month grind at the WSOP in Vegas can fuel some WSOPE buy-ins while at the Rio.  They will also be holding a mega-satellites for the WSOPE Main Event July 9-11.  The entry fee is a not too bad $1,570.  Wonder if the exchange rate fluctuates wildly if Harrahs will reimburse the players if they get the bad end of the deal?  If the exchange rates go the other way drastically it could almost be a freeroll.  Free texas hold’em to win a bracelet and WSOP glory?  Not bad.

We are also informed some of the biggest and brightest names in poker will participate.  I see one name that jumps off this list because it has no business being on there.  Hint, she’s an actress.   Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Annie Duke, Phil Hellmuth, (Hmmm… wonder if Phil enjoys Annie getting billing over him), Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda, Gus Hansen, Eric Seidel, Mike Matusow, Joe Hachem, Vanessa Rousso, Andy Bloch, David Benefield (wow… he gets named before Durrrr… surprising), Ivan Demidov, Sorel Mizzi, Jennifer Tilly (Hint… you just read it, who cares if she’s won a bracelet), Layne Flack, Andrew Black, Barry Greenstein, Tom Dwan, Chris Ferguson, Scotty Nguyen, Max Pescatori, Chris Bjorin, Allen Cunningham, Phil Ivey (should have been mentioned earlier), Howard Lederer, Patrik Antonius (see the Ivy comment), John Phan and Annette Obrestad (again see the Ivy comment).

Wow… not only did they list Tilly they didn’t mention her boyfriend/mentor/cougar-chow Phil Laak.  Apparently, the Brits have yet to win a bracelet at home.  Wembly, the Empire is not.  Maybe Wimbledon is a better corollary.
