Spotting a Cheat at a Texas Holdem Game
There are many ways you can be cheated in a game of Texas Hold’em at home as there are masters of the art of cheating. We hope that you will never be able to set your eyes on one and it is so difficult to spot a cheater unless you are trained up to the eyeballs so to speak in order to sniff the cheater out. Here you will find some basic tell tale signs that you can be on the watch for in a game of poker so keep your eyes peeled for that moment if it arrives at your poker table.
1. The Holding out cheat.
This is one of those classic cheats that we have all seen in one Western movie or another where one has an ace or a good card literally up his sleeve. The card has been kept from the previous game and is what cheaters keep as a reserve card just in case he wants to change one of the cards he has for the one he has stolen from the previous game. He may have this card either up his sleeve or on his lap or anywhere that one cannot notice it. So it is always good to count the deck and check for any missing cards if you suspect throughout the game. These random checks will help eliminate this fraud.
2. The false shuffling cheat.
This form of cheating involves shuffling certain cards and keeping some known cards at the top or bottom of the deck for handling to where he wants to give them. The best way to avoid this kind of dealing is to make sure that someone else other than the dealer gets to cut the deck before he attempts the shuffle, as this will minimize the risk of this happening. This is also another reason why there are burn cards in poker so that the dealer isn’t aware of al the cards.
3. The false deal cheats.
This kind of cheating takes a lot of skill and practice and it is simply like the name implies, a false deal. What happens here is that a card is dealt other than the top card that is supposed to be given to the recipient. There are two types of deal cheat. One is called the bottom deal and the other is known as the second deal. The bottom deal is like its name implies. The cheater deals the bottom card up so the recipient will receive the bottom card in the dealer’s deck instead of the top one that is rightfully his. The other form of cheating which is the second card form of cheat is when the dealer wants to have the top card for himself so every one else he is dealing to gets the second card instead.
4. The string betting method.
This for of cheating is when a player wants to keep raising bets with more than one forward motion to see other player’s reactions. If you see this happening you can nudge the player to stop it and he will have no choice in the matter.
It is imperative that you watch the dealer’s hands very carefully thought each round and game and if you see someone exceptionally skilled with dealing keep your beady eyes focused on that person. He may be a very genuine player and only if you are 100% sure that he is cheating should you speak up as it may be just a false alarm and you don’t want ill feeling to be created out of nothing. Now you have a rough guide to how others may cheat in a game of Texas Hold’em at home you can look out of these signs in your game and try to spot any in discrepancies. We do hope though that you will never encounter such a problem, as you want to enjoy your flutter without hype and fuss wherever possible.
