  • Betting -A Step-By-Step Action Guide to Betting in No Limit Holdem -Part 4

    Is he bluffing?

Every bet must be considered as the bluff in a no limit game. All the bets that comes at you in Texas no-limit hold ‘em is a potential bluff. All said and then , it is not judicious to assume that a player is bluffing unless and until you have caught them that too red-handed – and even then, commit to memory, and do not forget that he may have the cards this time. But still, that is no reason to waste a perfectly good hand. If he checks, then call the re-raise and bet again on the turn.

Does he think that you are on a draw?

Unlikely in the case illustrated above, if there is a draw on the table then take this into consideration. Call the re-raise and reconsider and have another look after the flop.

Does he think that you are weak?

Did you fold a lot of hands in the face of big betting recently? If you are thinking that your opponent is trying to exploit you and taking advantage of your apparent weakness then no need of panicking because now is the time to stand firm. Call the re-raise then bet again after the flop – and there is no need for big dramatic bets because that shows weakness, too –go for either the same amount as your original unique bet or the amount of the re-raise will do.

Look at the over-betting and under-betting

    Over-betting:
Some of the weak players, or say, players with less experience usually go for over-betting. It is very common in inexpert players. There is a certain amount of laziness to it and if at all you think it is a part of your game then you would be given the opinion to kick the habit as soon as possible in order to be a good player.

Consider the following scenario. It is one of the most common scenes; An inexperienced player flops the flush or jumps on some other big hand. Other participants in the tournament have been pushing him around all game and now it is time for his turn, his moment of action, – so he strikes the magic button and bets his entire chip-stack in an splendid display of strength.

This leads us to one of the three things. Any of the following 3 things can happen:

    1) Everyone folds and he gets a much smaller pot than he might have with a strong bet. For example, the size of the pot.
    2) He gets a caller with an even superior hand and gets packed down like a rented mule.
3)A complete dumb type of a player with an ordinary hand calls and the inexpert player takes all his chips unless the idiot gets lucky and wins on the turn or river.
